Insta360 Review - The Two Cameras That Do Everything on My Bike
I produce motorcycle content for a living, which means I have tried more action cameras than I can count. Most of them do one thing well. The Insta360 ecosystem is the first setup that does everything well, and that is why both my X5 and my Ace Pro 2 are on every shoot.
This is my honest take after two years of using Insta360 cameras for 1000PS test reports, brand campaigns, and my own trail tales. The discount code is at the bottom.
Why Insta360
Most riders only need one camera. Most content creators need two. Insta360 is the only brand that makes both, and they make them better than the competition.
The X-series cameras shoot 360 video, which sounds gimmicky until you understand what it actually unlocks. You film once, you decide the framing later in post. One ride through the Alps becomes a chase-cam shot, a third-person reveal, a helmet-side POV, and a handlebar close-up. Same clip, four edits, zero re-shoots.
The Ace Pro series goes the other direction. Co-engineered with Leica, traditional action camera form factor, but with image quality that genuinely competes with much larger cameras. The 1/1.3 inch sensor and the Leica SUMMARIT lens make a real difference in low light, which is when most action cameras start to look like phone footage.
Both lines run on the same FlowState Stabilization, which is the best in-camera stabilization I have used. No gimbal needed. Even on rough gravel, the footage looks like it came off a tracking dolly.
What I Actually Use
The two-camera setup covers every scenario I encounter on a shoot.
Insta360 X5 is the workhorse. 8K 360 capture, 185 minutes of battery in Endurance Mode, IP68 waterproof. I mount it on a selfie stick rigged to the bike, on the helmet, or on a chest harness. The footage from a single ride gives me enough angles for an entire YouTube edit. The InstaFrame mode is the underrated feature: it captures the full 360 sphere and a flat ready-to-post clip at the same time, so I have social-ready content without opening editing software.
Insta360 Ace Pro 2 is the storytelling camera. 8K30 video, 4K120 for slow-motion, the flip touchscreen that lets me check framing for to-camera segments before I close the visor. When I need a clean A-camera shot with cinematic quality, this is what comes off the shelf. PureVideo mode handles low-light better than any action camera I have used, which matters for early morning starts and evening shots.
The pairing works because the cameras complement each other instead of competing. X5 for coverage and flexibility. Ace Pro 2 for hero shots and presenter pieces. One ride, both cameras running, infinite editing options.
